What and who are your Sabbatical Officers? Well Sabbatical Officers are your elected representatives who have been voted in to oversee the running of the entire Students’ Union. As students who have either completed their degree or have elected to take a sabbatical year off from their course, they provide leadership, policy formulation and the day-to-day co-ordination of the Students’ Union.

There are five full-time paid sabbatical posts, a President and four Vice Presidents. Each Vice President is assigned to one particular aspect of the Union’s activities: Campaigns & Communication, Education, Services and Sports & Societies.

They are elected to support you as students, taking up problems that face students with the University’s governing body and campaigning with NUS (both nationally and regionally) on issues that affect the lives of students. The University’s senior managers and the Students’ Union have a very good working relationship, and between them they are usually able to resolve most of the individual or collective problems that students face.

As well as the sabbatical posts there are various other part time officer posts, ranging from the Editor of the Greenwich Telescope, the Student Union newspaper, to International Students’ Officer. Collectively elected sabbatical, non-sabbatical and representatives from each academic school form the Executive Officers – the governing body of the Students’ Union, representing the views of the student membership.

Remember the Sabbatical Officers are here for you at all times. Come and see them, talk to them, get to know what they do, and in general participate in your Union.
